Each year in autumn the VDP & Bernkasteler Ring members gather in Trier to auction their 'best' barrels of wine. We have been attending since 2010 and are delighted to bring a few bottles back to sell in Bordeaux
The Final 2024 Riesling Trocken, as it is referred to on the front label, comes from fruit harvested in one of the oldest and steepest parts of the Bockenauer Felseneck and saw extensive aging (until August after the vintage, together with the GGs). It initially proves still hugely primary and reductive with impressive fresh and pure notes of freshly cut herbs, grilled spices, cardamom, thyme, cassis, lime tree, dill, mustard seed, flintstone, and iodine. Only after prolonged airing does it reveal very subtle and complex elements. The wine proves magnificently restrained and pure on the filigreed and impressively energetic palate. The finish is vibrating and racy and reveals salty and spicy elements. This is a sublime, racy dry Riesling. 2032-2054+
