Founded in 1802, Weingut Klosterhof, is now run by brothers Dominique and Benjamin, who are currently moving to biodynamic farming. We first came across them last year and loved the green fruited Kabinetten, though this years 'noble sweet' wines are also exceptionally good in a vintage where little was made. A Producer to watch for sure.
Mosel Fine Wines say:
The 2023er Brauneberger Klostergarten Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese was made with fruit picked at a whopping 220° Oechsle and was
fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (320 g/l). This hay-bronze-colored wine offers a quite reduced nose made of date, almond
paste, grapefruit zest, raisin, honey, and a hint of brown sugar. The wine is hugely concentrated (almost oily) on the palate, but a quite firm kick of
acidity comes through and brings focus and a citrusy sense of freshness to the experience. The finish is long and incredibly focused. This is a
superb TBA in the making but its firm acidity (a firm 20 g/l) will make us opt to enjoy it at a younger stage, before the zesty side will take over. What
a huge success with even upside potential if it manages to harness the acidity! 2028-2038
