Herman Ludes is another estate that has always cut its own path. Focussing on drier wines, elegant and light, as Mosel Fine Wines say:
 
"In many ways, they are all cut from a hypothetical blend of Joh. Joh. Prüm early backwardness and Falkenstein zing while embracing the delicacy and finesse from both Estates."
The 2023er Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Spätlese Feinherb “Gackes Unten” was made from fruit harvested at 80° Oechsle on largely un-grafted old
vines in the middle front part of the vineyard part of the vineyard and was fermented down to off-dry levels of residual sugar (18 g/l). This hay-white
wine offers a subtle but complex nose made of quince, lemon zest, bergamot, ginger, wet stone, whipped cream, and smoke. It develops a
delicately creamy yet zesty balance on the palate, where tart and fruity elements are still wooing for attention separately. The finish is nicely playful,
delightfully light-footed, and mouthwatering. This is a nice even if slightly riper than usual expression of off-dry Mosel by Ludes. 2028-2038
