Herman Ludes is another estate that has always cut its own path. Focussing on drier wines, elegant and light, as Mosel Fine Wines say:
"In many ways, they are all cut from a hypothetical blend of Joh. Joh. Prüm early backwardness and Falkenstein zing while embracing the delicacy and finesse from both Estates."
The 2023er Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Kabinett Feinherb “Gackes Oben” was made from fruit picked at 85° Oechsle on 70-75-year-old vines in the
upper front part of the vineyard and was fermented down to off-dry levels of residual sugar (25 g/l). This white-hay wine is still marked by residual
scents from its spontaneous fermentation and requires a while to reveal some subtle elements of minerals, greengage, grapefruit zest, whipped
cream, and earthy spices. The wine is firmly off dry on the palate at first, but a nice zesty side comes through and adds structure to the finish. The
aftertaste is still in need of integration as tart and soft elements are battling it out currently. This should develop into a quite enjoyable off-dry
expression of Kabinett with proper aging. 2028-2038
