Founded in 1802, Weingut Klosterhof, is now run by brothers Dominique and Benjamin, who are currently moving to biodynamic farming. We first came across them last year and loved the green fruited Kabinetten, though this years 'noble sweet' wines are also exceptionally good in a vintage where little was made. A Producer to watch for sure.
Mosel Fine Wines say:
The 2022er Brauneberger Klostergarten Riesling Auslese, as it is referred to on the front label (the reference to “Goldkapsel” is left for the back
label and with a golden capsule), was made from 70-year-old (the oldest part the Estate owns in this vineyard) grapes harvested at 105° Oechsle
from 50% clean and 50% botrytized fruit in the south to south-west facing part of the vineyard and was fermented in stainless steel tank down to
noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (115 g/l). It proves quite reductive and closed at first, and needs a few minutes (if not more) in the glass to get
rid of the sulfur and deliver rich elements of pineapple, toffee, apricot, melon, bergamot, vanilla, honey, and Conference pear. The wine is subtly
honeyed and creamy on the sweet and smooth palate. There is good lightness and play, and it leaves a more focused and precise finish with great
length. This delicate Auslese GK needs at least a decade to fully deliver. 2032-2052
