Founded in 1802, Weingut Klosterhof, is now run by brothers Dominique and Benjamin, who are currently moving to biodynamic farming. We first came across them last year and loved the green fruited Kabinetten, though this years 'noble sweet' wines are also exceptionally good in a vintage where little was made. A Producer to watch for sure.
Mosel Fine Wines Say:
The 2022er Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese Thea (Thea is the first name of Benjamin Thomas’ second daughter, born in 2022) was
made from 40-year-old vines harvested at 85° Oechsle in the south-west facing and upper-central part of the vineyard and was fermented down to
sweet levels of residual sugar (70 g/l). It proves quite reductive at first as some flinty scents of wet slate interplay spices, candied lime, and wild
herbs. Only with more airing riper notes of yellow peach, pear, tangerine, and lily flower. The wine is superbly light-weight and juicy on the fruitdriven
palate. There is also nice depth and presence on the more focused and playful mid-palate. It leaves a precise and elegantly light finish with a
hint of tartness. This Spätlese is attractive and playful. 2028-2042
